Cong says I-T action a plot to oust EC Lavasa

New Delhi: Congress alleged on Tuesday that the income tax notice to the wife of election commissioner Ashok Lavasa was an attempt to force him to resign from his post. It reminded that Lavasa had dissented to the decisions taken by the CEC on certain election complaints against PM Narendra Modi during Lok Sabha polls.

Saying that the I-T notice to Lavasa’s wife was a “disturbing development”, AICC spokesman Pranav Jha said, “Does the government want to send a message to upright officers who are discharging their duties impartially? Or, is it an attempt to force that officer to resign?”
