Bengaluru: Despite playing only at half throttle, defending champions Japan carried far too many guns for hosts India in their Group ‘A’ opener of the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup basketball at the Sree Kanteerava Indoor stadium here on Tuesday.

The Japanese girls toyed with the promoted Indians, scoring a lopsided 103-27 victory. Coach Tom Hovasse probably didn’t feel the need to go all out and gave all his players game-time to get the feel of court and the conditions against the Indians, who for the good part of the match resembled a rabbit caught in the headlights.
