Gang­jee gears up to de­fend ti­tle

Kobe (Ja­pan): In­dian golfer Rahil Gang­jee is hope­ful of putting up a strong ti­tle de­fence de­spite a few changes to his game still be­ing work in progress ahead of the 10th Pana­sonic Open that starts here on Thurs­day. Gang­jee sen­sa­tion­ally ended a 14-year ti­tle drought when he claimed his se­cond Asian Tour ti­tle at the tour­na­ment last year. Ok­la­homa State Univer­sity, whose re­cent grad­u­ates, Mathew Wolff and Vik­tor Hov­land, have been the stars of the PGA Tour in re­cent months.

PGA Tour scraps Hong Kong event

Hong Kong: The US PGA Tour on Tues­day can­celled next month’s sea­son-end­ing event on its Chi­nese feeder golf cir­cuit in Hong Kong cit­ing “con­tin­ued demon­stra­tions, civil un­rest and safety con­cerns”. The Clear­wa­ter Bay Open, from Oc­to­ber 17-20, would have been the cli­max of the third-tier, 14-event, PGA Tour Se­ries-China. In­stead it be­came the lat­est sport­ing ca­su­alty of some­times vi­o­lent mass anti-gov­ern­ment protests.
