‘File report on illegal colony sewerage’
New Delhi: National Green Tribunal-appointed Yamuna monitoring committee on Wednesday asked the government agencies to provide a detailed list of the number of unauthorised colonies and the condition of their sewerage system. The panel has sought specific information, including the population of these colonies, the status of their internal sewerage systems, percentage of households connected to the network, among others.
“The four agencies — irrigation and flood control department, DSIIDC, PWD and DJB — are in possession of valuable data that needs to be collated and made available to the monitoring committee,” the panel told the agencies at a meeting on Wednesday.
The committee is tasked with finding an immediate and relatively short-term solution to avoid sewage flowing into the storm water drains. “The colony-wise dimension of the households can enable estimation of the total sewage flowing into storm water drains,” it said.
The directions came while discussing the need for clean-up of overflowing sewage water of a 2km stretch from Mangal Bazar to Mehrauli-Badarpur Road near Sangam Vihar.
