MP Dalit girl, boy beaten to death over open defe­ca­tion

Bhopal: Two Dalit cousins — a girl aged 12 and an 11year-old boy — were beaten to death by two men in Shivpuri district of Mad­hya Pradesh when they were defe­cat­ing in the open in front of the sus­pects’ house.

CM Ka­mal Nath ex­pressed con­cern over the mur­ders and di­rected po­lice to take ac­tion against the ac­cused. BSP supremo con­demned the bru­tal at­tack on chil­dren, and tweeted that “Dal­its and mi­nori­ties are be­com­ing vic­tims of atroc­i­ties across the coun­try.”

The kids squat­ted in front of Hakam’s house. Fu­ri­ous, he re­buked them and sud­denly started hit­ting them on the head with a stick. Po­lice said his brother Ramesh­war joined him.

Vil­lagers rushed out on hear­ing their screams, but it was too late. “We took the kids to hospi­tal but they died of skull in­juries,” SP Ra­jesh Chan­del told TOI, adding that Hakam and Ramesh­war were ar­rested im­me­di­ately. They have been charged with mur­der. The SP said Hakam was act­ing like he were men­tally un­sound.
