4 gunmen fire at shopowner, flee
New Delhi: Gunmen chased a shopowner through the streets of Usmanpur and opened fire at him when he tried to flee on a bike through a lane in northeast Delhi’s Usmanpur. The incident was captured by a CCTV camera installed at the mouth of the lane. It was found that the man had a dispute with some people at his village in Bulandshahr. The incident created panic in the area.
The incident happened around 6pm on Thursday evening when the victim, Mohammad Hassan, was on his way to his shop in lane number18. It was found that he had a fight with the accused at their village over observing Muharram a few weeks back, during which the accused had threatened him with dire consequences.
On Thursday, four men carrying pistols tracked down Hassan and followed him till the road outside his shop and opened fire. Hassan was riding pillion on a bike along with his friend and fell off the two-wheeler after being shot.
The CCTV footage showed the men carrying pistols running after the bike. As soon as Hassan and his friend turned a corner, one of them opened fire at him. His friend lost balance when the bullet hit Hassan on his waist. When they fell, one of the men tried to fire another round at him, but the gun seemed to have jammed. The man then kicked Hassan a few times, threatened him and fled along with the others.
Some passersby in the narrow lane had a close shave as the bullets flew. The men fired another round from a distance but missed Hassan again. He was taken to a hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
“We have registered a case of attempt to murder against Hassan’s rival and are looking for him in the locality,” said Ved Prakash Surya, DCP, northeast.
