Khanna loses ITF prez bid
Delhi: Indian sports administrator Anil Khanna lost the International Tennis Federation’s (ITF) election for the post of President to incumbent American David Haggerty by a massive 146vote margin during the world governing body’s AGM in Lisbon on Friday.
Haggerty has been reelected and will serve a second term till 2023. The contest in 2015 was a lot closer between Khanna and Haggerty with the former AITA president losing by less than 10 votes. However, in Friday’s election, Khanna could manage just 93 votes as compared to the 259 by Haggerty. Bengaluru: Srihari Nataraj and Virdhawal Khade won two more gold medals as India added three gold — the third came in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay — to end with their best-ever haul of 52 medals in the 10th Asian Age Group Swimming Championships that concluded at the PadukoneDravid Centre for Sports Excellence here on Friday.
India ended fourth in the medals tally behind Japan 79 medals (47 gold, 17 silver, 15 bronze), Thailand 63 (21, 18, 24) and Hong Kong 57 (15, 24, 18). India’s haul stood at 52 (15, 19, 18).
