Khanna loses ITF prez bid

Delhi: In­dian sports ad­min­is­tra­tor Anil Khanna lost the In­ter­na­tional Ten­nis Fed­er­a­tion’s (ITF) elec­tion for the post of Pres­i­dent to in­cum­bent Amer­i­can David Haggerty by a mas­sive 146vote mar­gin dur­ing the world gov­ern­ing body’s AGM in Lis­bon on Fri­day.

Haggerty has been re­elected and will serve a sec­ond term till 2023. The con­test in 2015 was a lot closer be­tween Khanna and Haggerty with the for­mer AITA pres­i­dent los­ing by less than 10 votes. How­ever, in Fri­day’s elec­tion, Khanna could man­age just 93 votes as com­pared to the 259 by Haggerty. Ben­galuru: Sri­hari Nataraj and Vird­hawal Khade won two more gold medals as In­dia added three gold — the third came in the men’s 4x200m freestyle re­lay — to end with their best-ever haul of 52 medals in the 10th Asian Age Group Swim­ming Cham­pi­onships that con­cluded at the PadukoneDr­avid Cen­tre for Sports Ex­cel­lence here on Fri­day.

In­dia ended fourth in the medals tally be­hind Ja­pan 79 medals (47 gold, 17 sil­ver, 15 bronze), Thai­land 63 (21, 18, 24) and Hong Kong 57 (15, 24, 18). In­dia’s haul stood at 52 (15, 19, 18).
