Man held for trying to sneak in ` 20L goods from Hong Kong
New Delhi: A man was arrested at Delhi airport upon his arrival from Hong Kong for allegedly trying to sneak in high-end commercial goods, such as iPhones and Rolex watches, worth over Rs 20 lakh. The passenger, who arrived from the Special Administrative Region of China at Terminal-3 of IGI Airport on Wednesday, was intercepted by officers of the Air Customs (Preventive).
A customs officer said that on receiving specific information, they intercepted the passenger who arrived via flight number CX-697 on Wednesday. A detailed search resulted in recovery of 27 iPhones, 330 watches of varying brands and an iron soldering machine, among other things. The officer said that these items were seized under Section 110 of Customs

During interrogation, the passenger first denied his involvement in any smuggling racket, but then confessed and admitted that this wasn’t the first time he had sneaked expensive items into India. His past visits to India were between October 2017 and September 2019.
“The man has been placed under arrest under the provisions of Section 104 of the Customs Act and further investigation is on,” said Amandeep Singh, additional commissioner of customs, IGI Airport.
50k fine on organiser for using thermo-plastic plates:
Coming down heavily on people flouting the norms by using thermo-plastic material, South Delhi Municipal Corporation on Sunday imposed Rs 50,000 fine on an organiser of a bhandara. A SDMC official said that the action was taken in Chirag Delhi under Section 15 of NGT for using thermo-plastic and under sections 317 and 351for littering. The official added that the organisers did not have proper measures in place to collect and dispose of used plates.
