Work starts to breathe fresh life into Naini Lake NORTH DELHI:
New Delhi: North Delhi Municipal Corporation has initiated work on the rejuvenation of Naini Lake — a waterbody located in the middle of the bustling Model Town area. On Sunday, minister of state for health and family welfare Harsh Vardhan visited the site to inspect the work.
To attract tourists and local visitors alike, Delhi Tourism and Transport Development Corporation (DTTDC) would start a boating facility there, probably by the next week itself, an official said. Though there was no plan to conduct deep de-silting in the lake as of now, the rejuvenation project included introducing “floating planters” to purify its water, the official added.
“National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) has placed 23 floating planters in the lake. These have a combination of shrubs and plants to curb pollution and increase the biological oxygen demand (BOD) levels,” a north corporation official said.
