Over 60 units sealed for us­ing bad fuel

New Delhi: Over 80 pol­lut­ing in­dus­tries have been ei­ther sealed or is­sued chal­lans in the east Delhi ar­eas for us­ing dirty fuel. On the di­rec­tion of En­vi­ron­ment Pol­lu­tion (preven­tion and con­trol) Au­thor­ity (EPCA), a joint drive was car­ried out by the of­fi­cials from dif­fer­ent agen­cies, in­clud­ing Delhi Pol­lu­tion Con­trol Com­mit­tee, Delhi Po­lice and East Delhi Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion, be­tween Fri­day and Sun­day.

“In the joint drive, we did night pa­trolling in Man­doli area near Harsh Vi­har af­ter the chief sec­re­tary or­dered ac­tion against the pol­lut­ing units. Dur­ing the sur­vey, we sealed 50 units dur­ing day­time and 12 dur­ing night hours. They were us­ing light diesel oil for burn­ing cop­per and elec­tri­cal wires to ex­tract met­als lead­ing to pol­lu­tion in area,” said EDMC com­mis­sioner Dil­raj Kaur.

Be­sides, 20 oth­ers units were is­sued chal­lans for run­ning in­dus­tries in night hours with­out ob­tain­ing per­mis­sion from any agency. Sim­i­lar ac­tion is likely to fol­low in sev­eral oth­ers ar­eas.
