Over 60 units sealed for using bad fuel
New Delhi: Over 80 polluting industries have been either sealed or issued challans in the east Delhi areas for using dirty fuel. On the direction of Environment Pollution (prevention and control) Authority (EPCA), a joint drive was carried out by the officials from different agencies, including Delhi Pollution Control Committee, Delhi Police and East Delhi Municipal Corporation, between Friday and Sunday.
“In the joint drive, we did night patrolling in Mandoli area near Harsh Vihar after the chief secretary ordered action against the polluting units. During the survey, we sealed 50 units during daytime and 12 during night hours. They were using light diesel oil for burning copper and electrical wires to extract metals leading to pollution in area,” said EDMC commissioner Dilraj Kaur.
Besides, 20 others units were issued challans for running industries in night hours without obtaining permission from any agency. Similar action is likely to follow in several others areas.
