New Delhi: An elderly woman in Jyoti Nagar readily helped two men whose friend, they claimed, had got injured in a bike accident. A few hours later, they returned on the pretext of thanking her and snatched her gold chain at gunpoint. Both have been arrested and the gold chain has been found.

Prakashi (60) told the cops that she and her friend were sitting at the courtyard of her house in northeast Delhi’s Ashok Nagar on Sunday evening when two men approached them for turmeric-lime paste to treat a friend who had fallen off a bike. They needed to stop his bleeding, one of them had said. Prakashi not only got them some paste but also offered to get it applied at her home.

However, the men refused the offer and left with the paste. When they came to “thank” her, they bent to seek her blessings, and suddenly one of them pulled out a pistol and pointed it at her while the other snatched her gold chain, and both fled.

Prakashi’s friend told police they had threatened both and told them not to raise an alarm. But the friend informed neighbours who alerted police.

Prakashi had identified one of them as skinny and the other as short. Although she could not recall their faces as she was not wearing spectacles, cops prepared their sketches following her friend’s statement. DCP (northeast) Ved Prakash Surya said the men were caught during checks at a picket.
