No clean chit to Dr Kafeel, fresh probe has been ordered: UP govt

Lucknow: A fresh inquiry has been ordered by the UP government into allegations of indiscipline, corruption and gross negligence of duty against Gorakhpur BRD Medical College’s suspended paediatrician, Dr Kafeel Khan.

In a previous inquiry, by a senior IAS officer, the results of which were submitted to the medical education department in April 2019, Kafeel had been absolved of two of the four charges levelled against him by the government. A final decision on the charges of which Kafeel was absolved is still to be taken by the government, authorities said.

Of the four cases, Kafeel was found guilty of indulging in private practice and being attached to a private nursing home in Gorakhpur till April 2017.

On Thursday, the principal secretary in the medical education department, Rajneesh Dube, said the fresh inquiry would investigate a total of seven charges against Kafeel. Dube will be the inquiry officer. “Dr Kafeel Khan has not been exonerated in the case. He has been spreading misinformation regarding the investigation,” Dube claimed.
