New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of only rural areas declaring themselves open defecation free (ODF) on Wednesday may have surprised many, but government data shows why he did not refer to the status of sanitation in urban areas at all during his speech in Ahmedabad. Till October 2 (Wednesday), 52 urban local bodies (ULBs) in West Bengal had not claimed to having achieved the ODF target.
