Corpns claim 498 spas, DCW told 5k
New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women on Saturday was informed that there were more than 5,000 spas operating in Delhi against the 498 figure cited by the three municipal bodies. The women’s panel was updated about the figure by a search engine to which DCW had earlier issued a notice seeking information on the number of spas registered on its portal.
The commission had conducted several inspections across the city and busted alleged sex rackets operating in these spa centres. It had been informed that several advertisements of spa and massage centres were available on this website and had sought details on them.
“This is completely contrary to the submissions by the three municipal corporations that have stated that 498 spa centres are operating in the capital. South Delhi Municipal Corporation said it had 297 centres in its zone, while its north counterpart claimed it had 127. East Delhi Municipal Corporation said there were 60 spas operating in its zone,” said Swati Maliwal, DCW chairperson.
Maliwal added that till date, no advisory has been issued by any of the corporation against cross gender massage.
