3 couples fined 3L each for love marriage
Raipur: Three couples and their families have been ostracised by village elders in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh because the youngsters married for love, outside the community, and refused to pay the Rs 3 lakh ‘fine’ slapped on them.
Villagers were warned that anyone who talks to the ostracised families would be fined Rs 10,000. The families weren’t allowed to draw water from the village pond. People wouldn’t talk to them on the street, grocers were afraid to sell anything to them, and a man who gave a lift to one of the youths had to cough up Rs 5,000 as fine.
