New Delhi: Delhi BJP on Sunday said that the AAP government had no right to continue in office as it was forcing Delhiites to consume contaminated water.

Talking to reporters, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari claimed that the water being supplied by Delhi Jal Board (DJB) was not worth drinking. He slammed the Arvind Kejriwal government for “failing” to supply safe water to people in its 56-month rule. He added that BJP will ensure clean BIS-standard drinking water to every household in the capital by 2024.

Reacting to the allegation6s, chief minister Arvind Kejriwal accused BJP of politicising the issue. “A central government minister recently said that Delhi’s water quality was better than Europe’s. BJP is just politicising the matter,” he added.

Another AAP functionary said that there was continuous monitoring of water quality at the treatment plants and it had been found good.

Referring to the testing of 11 tap water samples supplied by DJB to the Centre, Tiwari said the water supplied in Delhi was not fit for consumption. “A BIS investigation report said that all the samples failed the test. No drinking water sample was found to be potable and there were some deficiencies in all,” the Delhi BJP chief said, adding that the claim made by Kejriwal and his government that people were being provided water of Europe

GUNS BLAZING:

an standards was “misleading”.

“The reality is that people are being forced to buy drinking water. Those who are extremely poor are consuming polluted water. The chief minister, who is also the DJB chairman, should answer why people are being forced to consume poisonous water and fall prey to diseases,” Tiwari said.

Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi assembly, Vijender Gupta, said if a government fails to provide potable water to its citizens, then it has no right to continue in office.

Tiwari said BJP had promised in its 2019 Sankalp Patra that by 2024 it would provide clean water of BIS standard to all. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged to provide clean water to every household in the entire country under ‘Nal Se Jal’ scheme. We will provide clean water to every house and eliminate black-marketing and tanker mafia after coming to power in Delhi,” he added.
