2 coaches of Delhi-bound train derail
New Delhi: Two coaches of the Lucknow to Delhi 12583 train were derailed enroute to Anand Vihar on Sunday near Moradabad station around 10am. Officials said no injuries were reported. The doubledecker train was vacated so that necessary arrangements could be made to transfer passengers ahead.
“The derailment occurred at Katghar at 10.10am. One wheel of the fifth coach and two wheels of the seventh coach were derailed on site,” said Deepak Kumar, spokesperson for Northern Railway.
Northern Railway says a total of eight coaches from C5 to C13 were detached at the site and the remaining four coaches of the train were sent to Moradabad around 11.30am. Traffic operations were briefly affected during the period as well. “First priority was the safety of the passengers. They were immediately shifted to the front portion of the train and it was assessed by our engineers,” said Kumar, adding that both up and down lines were restored by around 11:30 am.
Officials said an enquiry has been ordered to determine why the derailment occurred.
