2 coaches of Delhi-bound train de­rail

New Delhi: Two coaches of the Lucknow to Delhi 12583 train were de­railed en­route to Anand Vi­har on Sun­day near Mo­rad­abad sta­tion around 10am. Of­fi­cials said no in­juries were re­ported. The dou­bledecker train was va­cated so that nec­es­sary ar­range­ments could be made to trans­fer pas­sen­gers ahead.

“The de­rail­ment oc­curred at Kat­ghar at 10.10am. One wheel of the fifth coach and two wheels of the sev­enth coach were de­railed on site,” said Deepak Ku­mar, spokesper­son for North­ern Rail­way.

North­ern Rail­way says a to­tal of eight coaches from C5 to C13 were de­tached at the site and the re­main­ing four coaches of the train were sent to Mo­rad­abad around 11.30am. Traf­fic op­er­a­tions were briefly af­fected dur­ing the pe­riod as well. “First pri­or­ity was the safety of the pas­sen­gers. They were im­me­di­ately shifted to the front por­tion of the train and it was as­sessed by our engi­neers,” said Ku­mar, adding that both up and down lines were re­stored by around 11:30 am.

Of­fi­cials said an en­quiry has been or­dered to de­ter­mine why the de­rail­ment oc­curred.
