2 e-learn­ing plat­forms launched for African na­tions

New Delhi: The Cen­tre has launched two e-learn­ing plat­forms to ease the de­liv­ery of on­line ed­u­ca­tion to African coun­tries.

The Union min­is­ter of ex­ter­nal af­fairs (MEA) S Jais­hankar launched the e-VidyaBhart­i and e-Ar­o­gyaBharti at the 55th In­dian Tech­ni­cal and Eco­nomic Co­op­er­a­tion Pro­gramme (ITEC) cel­e­bra­tions on Mon­day. Am­bas­sadors of over 70 part­ner coun­tries, cur­rent ITEC stu­dents and part­ner in­sti­tu­tions at­tended the launch of the pro­grammes. The new logo for ITEC was also un­veiled on the oc­ca­sion.

Stat­ing that de­vel­op­ment co­op­er­a­tion has al­ways played a key role in In­dia’s for­eign pol­icy, Jais­hankar said: “The e-VidyaBhart­i and e-Ar­o­gyaBharti, tele-ed­u­ca­tion and tele-medicine project for Africa, is one of the largest projects be­ing ex­e­cuted by min­istry (MEA). This project will en­able African stu­dents to ac­cess pre­mier In­dian ed­u­ca­tion through the com­forts of their homes and of­fer In­dian med­i­cal ex­per­tise to African doc­tors and pa­tients alike.”

Stress­ing on the need for co­op­er­a­tion with part­ner coun­tries, the min­is­ter said that some of the re­cent mea­sures to­wards that in­clude set­ting up of the De­vel­op­ment Part­ner­ship Ad­min­is­tra­tion Divi­sion as a ded­i­cated agency within MEA, en­hance­ment of bud­get al­lo­ca­tions for part­ner coun­tries, in­crease in the size of the For­eign Ser­vice, in­clud­ing hir­ing of sub­ject mat­ter ex­perts and in­creas­ing num­ber of schol­ar­ships, among oth­ers.

The e-VidyaBhara­ti and e-Ar­o­gya Bharati ini­tia­tive will serve as an­other dig­i­tal bridge be­tween In­dia and African coun­tries as an outreach to Africa in the crit­i­cal area of health and ed­u­ca­tion. It will be de­liv­ered by Telecom­mu­ni­ca­tions Con­sul­tants In­dia Ltd (TCIL).
