In a U-turn, ascetics’ outfit decides to back Chinmayanand
Days after criticising Swami Chinmayanand who has been accused of rape by a law student, the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad (ABAP), the apex body of ascetics, made a U-turn and said that the former Union minister has been falsely implicated in the case.
Speaking with TOI, ABAP president Mahant Narendra Giri said that the law student has levelled false allegations against the former BJP leader in an attempt to extort money. He added that the Akhara Parishad has decided to support Chinmayanand in the case.
Though one faction of the apex body still wanted to discuss the issue at the meeting to be held in October 10, the president urged the seers to extend their support to the BJP leader.
Giri said, “Swami Chinmayanand is a noted and respected ascetic and has been falsely implicated by the law student. She shot the video with the intention to extort money with the help of her gang members. We fully support the former Union minister in this matter and will not discuss the issue in the meeting of the Akhara Parishad.”
