2 cops hurt as criminals open fire, thrash them
New Delhi: Two police officers were injured after being attacked by criminals when they went to arrest them. The accused also fired at one of the cops, who narrowly escaped the bullet.
Over a dozen robbery and snatching cases were registered against the accused, Ramgopal Singh (26) and Sikandar (21), in Baba Haridas Nagar.
Constables Sanjit and Hansraj were patrolling on Dhansa road on Tuesday, when they received information that two armed criminals were staying in Gopal Nagar.
The police officers reached the indicated location and found the house locked from inside. They forced opened the door and found the accused sitting inside.
“On being questioned about their identity and profession, one of them took out a pistol and fired. The bullet, however, missed the cops,” said Anto Alphonse, deputy commissioner of police, Dwarka.
Singh and Sikandar then engaged in a scuffle with the constables during which the cops and Sikandar got injured. They were treated at a nearby hospital.
The duo later told police that they used weapons during their robbery and snatching forays. The weapon used by them was brought from Agra by Ram Gopal.
“Ramgopal was arrested in October, 2015 by Uttar Pradesh police in a robbery case and he remained behind the bar for five months,” added Alphonse.
