2 cops hurt as crim­i­nals open fire, thrash them

New Delhi: Two po­lice of­fi­cers were in­jured af­ter be­ing at­tacked by crim­i­nals when they went to ar­rest them. The ac­cused also fired at one of the cops, who nar­rowly es­caped the bul­let.

Over a dozen rob­bery and snatch­ing cases were reg­is­tered against the ac­cused, Ram­gopal Singh (26) and Sikan­dar (21), in Baba Haridas Na­gar.

Con­sta­bles San­jit and Han­sraj were pa­trolling on Dhansa road on Tues­day, when they re­ceived in­for­ma­tion that two armed crim­i­nals were stay­ing in Gopal Na­gar.

The po­lice of­fi­cers reached the in­di­cated lo­ca­tion and found the house locked from inside. They forced opened the door and found the ac­cused sit­ting inside.

“On be­ing ques­tioned about their iden­tity and pro­fes­sion, one of them took out a pis­tol and fired. The bul­let, how­ever, missed the cops,” said Anto Alphonse, deputy com­mis­sioner of po­lice, Dwarka.

Singh and Sikan­dar then en­gaged in a scuf­fle with the con­sta­bles dur­ing which the cops and Sikan­dar got in­jured. They were treated at a nearby hos­pi­tal.

The duo later told po­lice that they used weapons dur­ing their rob­bery and snatch­ing for­ays. The weapon used by them was brought from Agra by Ram Gopal.

“Ram­gopal was ar­rested in Oc­to­ber, 2015 by Ut­tar Pradesh po­lice in a rob­bery case and he re­mained be­hind the bar for five months,” added Alphonse.
