Cong, NCP are ‘tired’, should merge: Shinde
Kolhapur/Nashik/Mumbai: Senior Congress leader and former Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde stirred up a storm on Tuesday when he said that Congress and its alliance partner, Sharad Pawar-led NCP, were “tired” and needed to be merged.
Pawar dismissed Shinde’s comments, saying the NCP was “energetic” and geared up to face the upcoming state assembly elections.
Even state Congress president Balasaheb Thorat dismissed the idea of a merger. “Both parties are contesting the elections together, but there has been no discussion on a merger so far,” he said.
Former deputy CM Ajit Pawar and NCP spokesperson Nawab Malik also felt Shinde’s views were his own.
A Congress leader said that in the recent past, the issue of a merger has figured on several occasions.
