6 states to lose funds af­ter poor show on health

Bi­har, West Ben­gal, MP, Hi­machal, J&K and Ut­tarak­hand will miss out on 20% of the Cen­tre’s pay­out un­der Na­tional Health Mis­sion af­ter far­ing poorly in im­prov­ing health in­di­ca­tors, reports Sushmi Dey.

A re­port re­leased by the Union govern­ment on Wed­nes­day shows Haryana, Ker­ala, Pun­jab, As­sam and Dadra & Na­gar Haveli as the top five per­form­ers on key health in­di­ca­tors.

The pa­ram­e­ters in­clude op­er­a­tional­i­sa­tion of health and well­ness cen­tres, pro­vi­sion­ing of men­tal health ser­vices in dis­tricts cov­ered un­der the NHM scheme, screen­ing of peo­ple for non-com­mu­ni­ca­ble dis­eases and grad­ing of pri­mary health cen­tres.
