Mini-truck with liquor overturns, 2 girls injured
New Delhi: Two school girls were injured after a mini-truck smuggling country-made liquor from Haryana overturned near Wazirpur on Thursday morning. The owner of the vehicle, Arun Kumar, was later arrested from Burari.
Police said that the minitruck was heading towards Shalimar Bagh when it overturned on another vehicle. Geeta Kumari (17) and Preeti Giri (17) were travelling in the second vehicle and received head injuries after liquor bottles fell on them. Police said that both girls study in a government school near Wazirpur and were on their way to school when the accident happened.
Locals pulled out the girls and took them to a hospital. The angry residents later clashed with the police, demanding action, until the truck owner was arrested. The girls are in a stable condition now.
Kumari told police that the driver seemed drunk and drove zigzag before losing losing control of the vehicle.
