Mini-truck with liquor over­turns, 2 girls in­jured

New Delhi: Two school girls were in­jured af­ter a mini-truck smug­gling coun­try-made liquor from Haryana over­turned near Wazir­pur on Thurs­day morn­ing. The owner of the ve­hi­cle, Arun Ku­mar, was later ar­rested from Bu­rari.

Po­lice said that the mini­truck was head­ing to­wards Shal­i­mar Bagh when it over­turned on an­other ve­hi­cle. Geeta Ku­mari (17) and Preeti Giri (17) were trav­el­ling in the sec­ond ve­hi­cle and re­ceived head in­juries af­ter liquor bot­tles fell on them. Po­lice said that both girls study in a gov­ern­ment school near Wazir­pur and were on their way to school when the ac­ci­dent hap­pened.

Lo­cals pulled out the girls and took them to a hos­pi­tal. The an­gry res­i­dents later clashed with the po­lice, de­mand­ing ac­tion, un­til the truck owner was ar­rested. The girls are in a sta­ble con­di­tion now.

Ku­mari told po­lice that the driver seemed drunk and drove zigzag be­fore los­ing los­ing con­trol of the ve­hi­cle.
