Rape accused trying to flee nabbed at IGI
New Delhi: A 20-year-old man who allegedly raped a woman was caught while he was trying to flee to Malaysia from Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport on Wednesday. He was caught by CISF and handed over to police for further investigation.
A CISF official said that on Wednesday evening, Delhi Police sent information that a rape accused, Amit, may try to escape abroad. A rape case was registered against him on October 3 in Nihal Vihar. All CISF personnel of the airport were briefed.
Around 9.30pm, a passenger with the description shared by police was detected near ‘M’ row of the check-in area of Terminal-3. On interrogation, he revealed his identity and said that he was supposed to fly to Kuala Lumpur by Malaysia Airlines flight number MH 191, that was scheduled to fly out at 11pm. A senior police officer said that a case was registered after a woman complained that Amit raped her after promising to marry her. “The accused had been on the run since the complaint was filed. We found out that Amit was trying to flee to Malaysia and informed airport officials. He has now been arrested,” said the officer.
