Rape ac­cused try­ing to flee nabbed at IGI

New Delhi: A 20-year-old man who al­legedly raped a woman was caught while he was try­ing to flee to Malaysia from Ter­mi­nal 3 of Indira Gandhi In­ter­na­tional Air­port on Wed­nes­day. He was caught by CISF and handed over to po­lice for fur­ther investigat­ion.

A CISF of­fi­cial said that on Wed­nes­day evening, Delhi Po­lice sent in­for­ma­tion that a rape ac­cused, Amit, may try to es­cape abroad. A rape case was reg­is­tered against him on October 3 in Ni­hal Vi­har. All CISF per­son­nel of the air­port were briefed.

Around 9.30pm, a pas­sen­ger with the de­scrip­tion shared by po­lice was de­tected near ‘M’ row of the check-in area of Ter­mi­nal-3. On in­ter­ro­ga­tion, he re­vealed his identity and said that he was sup­posed to fly to Kuala Lumpur by Malaysia Air­lines flight num­ber MH 191, that was sched­uled to fly out at 11pm. He was then handed over to the.

A se­nior po­lice of­fi­cer said that a case was reg­is­tered af­ter a woman com­plained that Amit raped her af­ter promis­ing to marry her. “The ac­cused had been on the run since the com­plaint was filed. We found out that Amit was try­ing to flee to Malaysia and in­formed air­port of­fi­cials. He has now been ar­rested,” said the of­fi­cer.
