Self-im­mo­la­tion bid over ‘in­ac­tion’: Case was im­me­di­ately filed, say cops

New Delhi: A day af­ter a 25-year-old man set him­self afire inside a po­lice sta­tion claim­ing in­ac­tion by cops in a case reg­is­tered by his fa­ther Yadram, po­lice have re­ceived a sup­ple­men­tary state­ment from Yadram stat­ing that the ac­cused had also picked up a fight with him ear­lier.

Yadram’s son Ashu on Oc­to­ber 9 reached the Prem Na­gar po­lice sta­tion and recorded a video of him claim­ing that the po­lice of­fi­cer in­ves­ti­gat­ing his fa­ther’s case was threat­en­ing the fam­ily. He later poured kerosene on him­self and asked for head con­sta­ble San­deep. When the duty of­fi­cer in­formed him that he was not present, he set him­self ablaze. Ashu’s con­di­tion is crit­i­cal at the Saf­dar­jung hos­pi­tal. On Satur­day, Yadram al­leged that the ac­cused per­sons had thrashed him ear­lier in Outer Delhi .

The po­lice of­fi­cials on the other hand stated that Ashu and Yadram had a scuf­fle with the two brothers Aman­deep Dabas and Hardeep Dabas on Oc­to­ber 8. “At 8:30pm, Yadram’s shoul­der brushed past Aman­deep and his mo­bile phone fell down. Yadram claimed that he of­fered to get the phone re­paired but the ac­cused

ON CAM: still thrashed them. A call was made to the po­lice around 10:44pm,” said SD Mishra, Deputy Com­mis­sioner of Po­lice, Ro­hini.

Mishra said that the call was marked to San­deep who later met with an ac­ci­dent and went on med­i­cal leave. “We had im­me­di­ately reg­is­tered a case un­der sections 342 (pun­ish­ment for wrong­ful con­fine­ment), 323 (vol­un­tar­ily caus­ing hurt) and 506 (crim­i­nal in­tim­i­da­tion). Aman­deep and Hardeep are ab­scond­ing and ef­forts are be­ing made to nab them,” Mishra added.
