HC quashes FIR against man who mocked Gowdas online, slaps ` 1L fine on K’taka govt

Ben­galuru: A city-based en­gi­neer, ar­rested for post­ing on Face­book neg­a­tive com­ments against JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda and his son HD Ku­maraswamy, walked free on Fri­day fol­low­ing a high court or­der, which also im­posed a cost of Rs 1 lakh on the Kar­nataka gov­ern­ment.

“This is a clas­sic case of bla­tant vi­o­la­tion of fun­da­men­tal rights by the po­lice,” the court ob­served on Fri­day while quash­ing the FIR reg­is­tered against S Jaikanth, an ad­min­is­tra­tor of Troll Maga page on Face­book. The state gov­ern­ment has been di­rected to pay him Rs 1 lakh as cost within a month.

The po­lice had reg­is­tered two FIRs against Jaikanth in May and June 2019 for al­legedly post­ing abu­sive and in­sult­ing state­ments against Gowda, Ku­maraswamy and his son Nikhil Ku­maraswamy.
