Indiabulls withdraws plea against Swamy
New Delhi: In a surprising move, Indiabulls withdrew on Friday from the Delhi HC its plea seeking to restrain BJP leader Subramanian Swamy and social media companies from publishing or disseminating any “false, offending or defamatory” allegations against it.
The HC had in September passed an interim order in favour of Indiabulls restraining Swamy, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. On Friday, however, Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd sought permission and was allowed to withdraw its pleaagainst Swamy and the others. Justice Mukta Gupta allowed the application and said the suit was “dismissed as withdrawn”.
It means the restraining order against Swamy and the social media platforms, which had also directed them to remove or take down or expunge the “offending false messages” from their platforms, stands vacated and there is no bar on publishing articles on the company.
During the hearing, IBHFL counsel sought to withdraw the suit saying they hoped that now there would be an end to the controversy.
