Arab League: It’s in­va­sion of Arab land

for­eign min­is­ters on Satur­day con­demned Turkey’s “ag­gres­sion” in Syria. An emer­gency ses­sion of the Arab League was called by Egypt in Cairo. Arab League chief Ahmed Aboul Gheit slammed the at­tack as an “in­va­sion of an Arab land”. He called for “im­me­di­ate and un­con­di­tional with­drawal of Turkey from all of Syria’s land.” The group said Ankara’s of­fen­sive was a “di­rect threat to Arab na­tional se­cu­rity”.

Syr­ian op­po­si­tion fight­ers have made gains cap­tur­ing sev­eral vil­lages in fight­ing and bom­bard­ment that left dozens of peo­ple killed or wounded. The in­va­sion has also forced nearly 100,000 peo­ple to flee their homes. EU

lead­ers may set­tle on an arms em­bargo on Turkey over its in­cur­sion into Syria as soon as next week, four of­fi­cials fa­mil­iar with the dis­cus­sions said. It would send a strong sig­nal to Er­do­gan gov­ern­ment and drag Ankara’s ties with its Nato al­lies to a new low. The of­fi­cials said the de­ci­sion could be made dur­ing EU sum­mit on Oc­to­ber 17-18. Ger­many said it has stopped ship­ments of mil­i­tary equip­ment to Turkey.
