Arab League: It’s invasion of Arab land
foreign ministers on Saturday condemned Turkey’s “aggression” in Syria. An emergency session of the Arab League was called by Egypt in Cairo. Arab League chief Ahmed Aboul Gheit slammed the attack as an “invasion of an Arab land”. He called for “immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Turkey from all of Syria’s land.” The group said Ankara’s offensive was a “direct threat to Arab national security”.
Syrian opposition fighters have made gains capturing several villages in fighting and bombardment that left dozens of people killed or wounded. The invasion has also forced nearly 100,000 people to flee their homes. EU
leaders may settle on an arms embargo on Turkey over its incursion into Syria as soon as next week, four officials familiar with the discussions said. It would send a strong signal to Erdogan government and drag Ankara’s ties with its Nato allies to a new low. The officials said the decision could be made during EU summit on October 17-18. Germany said it has stopped shipments of military equipment to Turkey.
