Your Best Shot

A reader captures the Perseid meteor shower over the iconic Buddha statue in Langza, Spiti.

I HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY lucky to witness and shoot the two best meteor showers of this year, and they both put on a blazing show, literally. While the weather conditions seemed unfavourable up to a couple of days before the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, the sky cleared up the night before. The Perseids gave a new lease of life to this often-photographed Buddha statue in Langza, Spiti. Presented in this image are the brightest of the streaks—of which the naked eye could see hundreds—extracted from 24 frames shot on the two nights of the peak.
