Home Sweet Home

Offering uninterrupted views of the Arabian Sea and infused with a bohemian vibe, Mandira Bedi’s Madh Island home, Bouganvilla, is up for grabs on Airbnb.

IN A HAMLET CALLED ERANGAL, on Madh Island, TV icon Mandira Bedi bought a quaint bungalow overlooking the sea 14 years ago. She named it Bougainvilla after the flowers that flank the property even today. While Bedi used it as a location for shoots and weekend getaways all these years, she put it up on Airbnb last year for friends, family, and travellers alike. From the paint to the flooring and furnishing, the house has been completely revamped and turned into a Mediterranean-style holiday home.

Bedi says the house reflects her personality: bold, breezy, and balmy. It features four colour-coded bedrooms, five baths, and a private pool. The master bedroom on the ground floor has a purple-and-gold theme, a four-poster bed, and an open-air shower area. The second bedroom faces the ocean, comes with a sit-out area, and is aptly painted blue. The third bedroom is painted in the hues of sunlight, and also comes with a sit-out area surrounded by bougainvillea. The fourth bedroom upstairs is akin to another master bedroom, featuring an inviting green theme, a four-poster bed, and the most spacious bathroom of the house.

The heart of the house is its airy living room, dotted with colourful accessories. In one corner, there is a cosy daybed to curl up in. The six-seater dining space is perfect for food and conversations. And a dedicated study-cum-library gives you all the solitude you need. In terms of design and decor, the house is a melange of luxurious and laid-back elements. On one hand, you have mustard-yellow Jaisalmer stone on the floors and the exteriors, and on the other hand, Bedi has used personal touches such as an up-cycled 20-year-old teakwood cupboard, glittery sheer curtains and wall-hangings made out of saris, and artwork she made at home during the pandemic. Many of the accessories in Bougainvilla have been brought in from Bedi’s other home in Mumbai.

The house is an absolute treat for water babies. While Erangal Beach is right in front, a kid-friendly pool in the house allows guests endless play time in the sun. There’s even a trampoline for kids. When it comes to amenities, everything from toiletries to laundry and food is taken care of. All you have to do is show up with your clothes—and enough time to kick back and relax. airbnb.co.in/rooms/48355123
