Hike in Hyrcanian Forests

-

In the north of Iran, nestled between the Caspian Sea and the Elburz Mountains, the Caspian Hyrcanian Forests are still unknown to many. It is quite ironic, given that they are 25 to 50 million years old. They stretch over 800 kilometres, from southeastern Azerbaijan eastwards to Iran’s Golestan province. The wilderness is home to trees like chestnut-leaved oak, Persian silk, and Caspian locust, and animals like brown bears, golden jackals, and Persian leopards. TasteIran (tasteiran.net) offers a hike into the part of the forest that lies in the Gilan province. It covers the protected areas of Sarvelat and Qasemabad. visitiran.ir
