based Banyan Tree Ho­tels is strate­gi­cally fo­cussing on In­dia, as a key emerg­ing mar­ket. The group will mark its de­but in In­dia with a ho­tel that would open early next year at the pri­vate is­land of Nediy­athu­ruthu in Alleppey district of Ker­ala. The com­pany’s first prop­erty will be run un­der a man­age­ment con­tract. Talk­ing about in line with the group’s world­wide growth ex­pan­sion plans to in­crease its pres­ence to over 80 lo­ca­tions in 30 coun­tries by 2012. A sig­na­ture Banyan Tree Re­sort de­signed on the con­cept of ‘pool vil­las’, all the 59 vil­las of the Banyan Tree Ker­ala will of­fer views of the wa­ter­ways, canals and trop­i­cal green­ery around the is­land.”

With in­creased brand vis­i­bil­ity in the In­dia mar­ket, Banyan Tree aims to at­tract more In­dian trav­ellers to its ho­tels and re­sorts in Bangkok, Phuket and Sa­mui in Thai­land; Bali and Bin­tan in In­done­sia; Mal­dives and Sey­chelles as well.

Go­ing for­ward, the group is fi­nal­is­ing plans to en­ter Goa. “Goa is on our list of des­ti­na­tions and a lo­cal part­ner is al­ready on-board for the Angsana brand. The group will also look at ur­ban lo­ca­tions such as Delhi and Mum­bai in the near fu­ture,” he adds.
