Even with 0.06% of the total international visitor arrivals, India has earned a respectable US$11.13 billion in tourism receipts in 2009, going up to $17.74 billion in 2012. When compared to its South Asian compatriots, India leads. But when it comes to its tourism peers in Southeast Asia, India has a lot of catching up to do. Thailand has seen its tourism receipts spike from US$14.88 billion in 2009, to a staggering US$ 31.65 billion in 2012. Even Malaysia stays ahead of the game, nudging ahead with US$ 18.36 billion in 2012. The good news is, India is catching up.
