Ethiopian to fly to Chen­nai

Ethiopian, the na­tional car­rier of Ethiopia, flies to two cities in In­dia, Delhi and Mum­bai. How­ever, come win­ter 2014, the air­line hopes to fly to Chen­nai if the req­ui­site per­mits are re­ceived.

The car­rier flies to In­dia, con­nect­ing Dar es Salaam, Nairobi, Ban­gui, Jo­han­nes­burg, En­tebbe, Mom­bassa, Zanz­ibar, Khar­toum, La­gos, Abid­jan, Contonou, Harare and Ndolu.

In­dia has a lot of po­ten­tial and is a grow­ing econ­omy, said Tekeba H Se­lassie, Re­gional Di­rec­tor - In­dia sub Con­ti­nent, Ethiopian Air­lines. “The Air­lines has been op­er­at­ing into In­dia for more than four decades and en­vis­ages fu­ture mar­ket growth. In­dia is one of the air­line’s ma­jor des­ti­na­tions,” he said.

With the In­dian avi­a­tion in­dus­try fac­ing stiff com­pe­ti­tion from for­eign and do­mes­tic air­lines and with the price war con­tin­u­ing, Se­lassie be­lieves this is a healthy com­pe­ti­tion. As

op­er­at­ing mar­gins re­main low and com­pe­ti­tion in­ten­si­fies, air­lines are iden­ti­fy­ing fac­tors other than price to at­tract cus­tomers. In-flight en­ter­tain­ment and con­nec­tiv­ity are key points for air­lines to achieve dif­fer­en­ti­a­tion, at least at the mo­ment.

The air­line has been a Star Al­liance mem­ber since De­cem­ber 2011. Serv­ing a net­work of 80 pas­sen­ger des­ti­na­tions, 16 do­mes­tic and 17 freighter, the air­line pins great im­por­tance to its in-flight en­ter­tain­ment.
