In­dia at ATM-2014

In­dia was in the lime­light, as the re­cip­i­ent of the 2014 New Fron­tiers Award and due to ag­gres­sive mar­ket­ing by In­dia Tourism in GCC dur­ing 2013. Around 28 par­tic­i­pants were present in MOT’s In­dia Pavil­ion.

There has been a con­sis­tent growth of FTAs from this re­gion to In­dia over the last three years. The year 2012 has reg­is­tered an over­all growth of around 17 per cent over 2011. As Gulf and the Mid­dle East re­gions are im­por­tant mar­kets for In­dia, the Re­gional Of­fice of In­dia Tourism in Dubai is or­gan­is­ing tourism road shows, food fes­ti­vals and med­i­cal sem­i­nars in GCC coun­tries ev­ery year.

In­dia has emerged as a des­ti­na­tion for med­i­cal/well­ness travel in GCC coun­tries. The per­cent­age of FTAs vis­it­ing In­dia for med­i­cal treat­ment has been grow­ing rapidly since 2000. In 2013, the to­tal FTAs to In­dia stood at 6.84 mil­lion, as com­pared to 6.57 mil­lion in 2012, a 4.1 per cent in­crease.

“Con­nec­tiv­ity is in­creas­ing as the de­mand is grow­ing for busi­ness and Tourism in In­dia in Gen­eral. Fly­dubai is in­tro­duc­ing di­rect flight to New Delhi from Dubai ef­fec­tive from June 1, 2013,” he fur­ther stated.

The Min­istry of Tourism, Govern­ment of In­dia is also step­ping up its ef­forts to at­tract new tar­get groups such as eco and ad­ven­ture trav­ellers and high­light the tourism po­ten­tial of rel­a­tively less known prod­ucts and ar­eas.
