Kuoni India puts CSR activities in overdrive mode
The introduction of the new company law on CSR in India is making many a top travel companies to turn their heads towards social responsibilities. One of them is Kuoni India.
Zurich-based Matthias Leisinger, the group’s VP for Corporate Responsibility (CR), was in India to understand and advice on Kuoni India’s CR strategy. According to him, Kuoni as a group has been very involved with CSR. The company been active for over a decade now in enhancing the positive impact of tourism on people and the environment while minimising effects.

The issues which the company is actively looking into are child protection. “Underprivileged children are at the highest risk. We have discussed the guidelines with our supply chain in various destinations to get their onground support. Since the problem persists mainly in the informal sectors, especially in India, it poses its own set of challenges,” he adds.
The company is also organising workshops with the help of various government agencies and NGOs on a regular basis. “In India, we have worked in Goa with the help of Goa Tourism Development Corporation where we conducted workshops on how to eliminate child prostitution. In Thailand, we have been working towards water conservation and child prostitution. We have also taken steps to protect the coral reefs in Maldives,” he says.
