India welcomes tourist feedback
In recent interaction with Tourism Minister, Shripad Yesso Naik, WTTCII had proposed that the MOT initiates and implements Tourist Satisfaction Surveys at International Departures at all Indian Airports through touch screen kiosks.
ccording to a WTTCII report, Travel & Tourism’s total contribution in 2013 for the global economy rose to 9.5% of the global GDP (US$ 7 trillion), not only outpacing the wider economy, but also growing faster than other significant sectors such as financial and business services, transport and manufacturing. Travel & Tourism supported nearly 266 million jobs in 2013, which is 1 in 11 of all jobs in the world.
The crucial challenge for India’s Tourism, according to WTTCII, is how to match the traveller’s experience and imagination with Incredible India’s assurances. “These kiosks will be a very important initiative to benchmark India's tourism competitiveness on a real time basis. It is important for us to take feedback from tourists on departure from the country. It should be implemented pan India not later than September 1 to ensure we capture the upcoming tourist season,” says Dipak Deva, Chairman, WTTCII.
Deva continues to say, “We had met with Usha
Sharma, ADG, Ministry of Tourism on June 9, 2014 and presented the concept note and the ‘Happiness Quotient’ Questionnaire for the Visitor Satisfaction Survey. We are happy to say

that the proposal has been extremely well received. The Ministry of Tourism will take up the process of implementation
very shortly.” “This is important data for marketing India abroad, and even for countering negative reports from international media. An attitudinal shift is required, a resensitisation and reiteration of ‘ Aitithi Devo Bhava’ is
urgently needed.”
