20% rise in air travel
India emerged as the strongest growing aviation market with 20 per cent growth in 2015. Brian Pearce, Chief Economist, International Air Transport Association (IATA) sheds light on the aviation industry and the performance of air cargo in 2015.
or the year as a whole we saw growth of 6.5 per cent in air travel markets if measured by passenger kilometers flown which is really strong above the trend of five per cent. Air cargo though much weaker, we only saw a growth of 2.2 per cent which is very disappointing after a much stronger 2014," Pearce says.
Pearce identifies Asia Pacific region and the Middle East as the strongest regions of growth for air travel. He says, "Airlines from both Asia Pacific region and the Middle East have seen close to double figure growth. The outstanding market has actually been India, where we saw growth of 20 percent. On the other end of the spectrum, there are also some very weak markets as well. Brazil has barely grown at all in 2015 and the African airlines have also been struggling, growing by a little more
