Transporting dangerous goods by any mode of transportation (air, sea or surface) requires a lot of technical know-how and must be done in a responsible manner. It is the not only shippers’ responsibility but everyone is involved in the logistics chain. Dangerous goods should be in suitable containers with sufficient cushioning, absorbent materials, and secure closures which will keep hazmat where it belongs inside the package. Dangerous goods must be packed in accordance with the modal regulation as they could differ in quantity limitation per package. To ensure that the trade is not burdened with high cost of packaging while sending samples for testing or very small quantity, there is provision called ‘excepted package’ and ‘limited quantity package’. The main priority of packaging of dangerous goods is to ensure that the packaged good is stable and sealed in such a way that ensures no spillage or emission of the material. Improper labelling and marking greatly reduces the effectiveness of dangerous goods packaging. Awareness is one thing which needs to be there and secondly dangerous goods should be handled by the people who are trained under the different categories of dangerous goods.
