But climate change has little effect on people’s desire to travel and deciding not to travel at all for reasons to do with sustainabi­lity is rare. But the industry can start this conversati­on with their clients who, in turn, can take steps to ensure that their journey is making the least impact on the environmen­t – because every action counts.

What does this mean for the trade? They can choose to work with vendors and suppliers who are sustainabl­e-conscious. For consumers, they want to see sustainabl­e travel informatio­n during the tripplanni­ng process, preferably in the form of listings or info pages on travel sites, as well as in marketing campaigns. The bottom line – travel companies should take steps to respond to growing consumer demand and offer truly sustainabl­e products and services, clearly communicat­e about them and illustrate the value of making conscienti­ous choices.
