Interestingly, the US Air Force are also now considering the acquisition of ‘light fighters’. US Air Force chief of staff General David Goldfein has revealed plans to acquire up to 300 of such “low-cost light-attack fighters” to be used primarily for “counterterrorism missions.” Such a proposal was first mooted by Senator John McCain, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, who had said the USAF could procure the first 200 by 2022.
