Black Hawks for Afghanistan
The United States will deliver up to 159 refurbished UH-60A Black Hawks to Afghanistan to replace the present inventory of Mi-17 transport helicopters even as the country aims to double the size of its 17,000-strong Special Forces Wing. The US is providing $814m to bolster the Afghan Air Force, including funding for 53 Black Hawks. A first delivery is expected within two years and the helicopters could be delivered at a rate of up to 30 annually.
