Saab-Adani JV: be­yond the Gripen

The joint ven­ture be­tween Saab and the Adani Group will ad­dress a broad port­fo­lio of pro­grammes in­clud­ing UAVs and he­li­copters for the In­dian armed forces, be­sides the key pro­gramme for sup­ply of Gripen multi-role fighters for the In­dian Air Force. Asish Ra­j­van­shi, head of Adani Group’s De­fence and Aero­space di­vi­sion, said fo­cus of the joint ven­ture was on de­vel­op­ment of “foun­da­tional ca­pa­bil­i­ties” to pro­duce a wide-range of prod­ucts in the aero­space sec­tor for the do­mes­tic as well as ex­port mar­kets. On 1 Septem­ber, Saab and the Adani Group for­mally an­nounced their col­lab­o­ra­tion at a high level func­tion in New Delhi, where Saab’s Håkan Bushke and Gau­tam Adani were to­gether.

Chair­man and Man­ag­ing Di­rec­tor of Saab Group’s In­dia op­er­a­tion Jan Wider­strom has re-it­er­ated the JV was not only for the Gripen but there were other ar­eas, in­clud­ing un­manned aerial ve­hi­cle (UAVs), mil­i­tary he­li­copters and var­i­ous other aero­space com­po­nents and equip­ment with a broad fo­cus on devel­op­ing a world-class ecosys­tem for the aero­space sec­tor in In­dia.
