Pampa for Uruguay
The Uruguayan Air Force (FAU) has evaluated the 1A-63 Pampa III advanced trainer. The FAU requires eight to twelve aircraft to replace its A-37 and possibly the Pucará. In August 2016, FAU pilots also visited China to evaluate and fly the Hongdu L-15B lead-in fighter trainer (LIFT). In addition to a potential sale of the Pampa III to Uruguay, proposals have also been given to Bolivia, Paraguay and South Africa’s Paramount Group. Contenders for the new helicopters comprise the AW-159, Sikorsky MH-60R and the NHIndustries NH90. The helicopters will also be armed with K745 Cheong Sangeo (Blue Shark) lightweight torpedoes and depth charges.
