IAF Chief flags PLAAF ac­tiv­i­ties

Air Chief Mar­shal Biren­der Singh Dhanoa, CAS IAF has made pointed ref­er­ence to in­creas­ing Chi­nese com­bat air­craft ac­tiv­i­ties in the Ti­betan Au­ton­o­mous Re­gion, the PLAAF now con­sid­er­ably ramp­ing up its ae­rial prow­ess in the plateau north of Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim. The In­dian Chief said that “The de­ploy­ment of Sukhoi Su-27 and J-10 fight­ers for con­tin­u­ous op­er­a­tions dur­ing the win­ter months af­fords them a cred­i­ble all round ca­pa­bil­ity. Many years ago, they used to only oc­cupy the air fields in sum­mers.”

Upgra­da­tion of Chi­nese air de­fences along the 3,500 km long Line of Ac­tual Con­trol (LAC) with In­dia has been recorded in sev­eral past is­sues of the Vayu, in­clud­ing I/2018 which re­ported on Chengdu J-20 stealth fight­ers also ex­er­cis­ing in Ti­bet. Chi­nese state run me­dia have re­leased pho­to­graphs of J-10s and J-11s fly­ing over Ti­bet, the PLA’s web­site fur­ther clar­i­fy­ing that the fight­ers be­longed to an Avi­a­tion Brigade un­der the PLA Western Theatre Com­mand: “With In­dia im­port­ing new jets, China will con­tinue strength­en­ing fighter jets in Western Theatre Com­mand.”
