Russian hypersonic missile tested

According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, a new hypersonic anti- ship missile, with maximum speed of Mach 8 or 6,000 miles an hour or 1.7 miles a second, has been tested for the fifth time. The missile, identified as Zircon, is multi purpose, for both anti-ship and against land-based targets and expected to enter production in 2021 going into service with the Russian Navy in 2022. Under development by NPO Mashinostroeniya Military-Industrial Corporation, this could well be a new version of the Indo-Russian BrahMos II hypersonic missile system.
