The EXPO saw a growth of about 25% in the number of exhibitors occupying a gross show space of about 12,000 + sqm. For the first time there were exhibitors from 5 countries. Though the Indian contingent, occupied a dominant 88% representing all categories, the main categories like Lighting, Fixtures, VM and POP Display saw significant growth. The entry of Retail Technology as a category and its integration into the products of the main categories helped visitors get the best of solutions for creating great retail environments and in-store marketing for brands.
The quality of presentation of the exhibitors was on par with international standards across the globe which showcased their intent in inspiring, engaging and converting visitors to their stall.
The number of visitors grew from last year by 50% to over 7500 this year. The feedback from most exhibitors was that consistent footfalls from brands, modern and traditional retailers, kept them busy on all the three days.
In-Store Asia 2018 also went digital this year with the launch of a very handy app that allowed visitors to search & connect with exhibitors, way-find in the venue, network and fix meetings, participate in quizzes, engage in the convention, get information about events etc. literally at their fingertips. The app was usefully downloaded and used by over 500 visitors and delegates in the show.
The CONVENTION, themed on ‘The re-imagined store’, saw a growth of 60% in the number of delegates from 150 to 240 this year. 24 speakers, 5 of them from overseas, shared their rich experiences and knowledge from the domain of FMCG, Beauty, Food, Retail Design, Visual Merchandising, Consumer Psychology, Digital shopping experiences and Rollout Management. The speakers were from diverse professionals like beauty retailer, visual merchandiser, hospitality experience designer, food retailer, chef, marketer, e-commerce retailer, rollout manager and digital experience designer. The convention, for the first time, had interesting engagement with the audience posting online questions through the app after every session, which had over 275 questions over two-days. The speakers got to choose the best question, where each winner walked away with a cash prizes worth Rs 10,000, presented by INSYNC. As an interesting initiative, the conference also hosted the Retail Quiz, through the In-Store Asia app where the lucky winner got to take home an Apple iPad, sponsored by Retail4Growth.
The VM CHALLENGE, a one-of-a-kind live window display contest in India for the visual merchandising community, was led by 6 leaders from 2 retailers, 2 brands and 2 VM agencies and brought some 42 participants in total from over 15 retail companies and brands. For the first time, the teams were given different products categories, each based on consumer lifestyle (i.e., Grooming, Eating, Exercising, Travelling, Dressing and Personal Care) and each team was briefed by 6 clients selected by VJ Media from the pool of delegates. A jury consisting senior display practitioners from overseas and India chose the winners based on relevance, impact, styling and creative use of materials. Mannequins were supplied by Tranz and Vinyl by 3M.
VM&RD RETAIL DESIGN AWARDS, is the most prestigious event for the retail design community in the Indian Retail industry. Top Retail Design, Visual Merchandising and Manufacturing talent from India compete in 12 Store Design Categories and 10 Special Categories. The contest this year attracted 366 entries from 106 companies, an impressive 36% and 35% up from the 2016 respectively.
The entries were judged by a Jury Panel comprising of 26 reputed names, 14% up from 2016, equally from India and overseas. This time the entire process, from submission to awarding was completely done on a specially designed multi-media digital platform. The total awards given were 65, a good 28% more than 2016. The ceremony culminated in a gala award ceremony attended by top leaders in business and design from the Indian Retail Industry. •
