‘IT policy enforcement is still an issue with CIOS’

- Ritu Singh

What are WINIT’S latest products and offerings?

The latest product from WINIT is our Mobile Application Management Middleware, which is a framework that consists of a set of reusable application components for version management, data security, authentication and access control, content management, device-specific customization, etc. The application not only enables IT teams to create custom applications rapidly but also handle IT policy and change management for the mobile applications.

How do you plan to tap the Indian market?

As the smartphone adoption and spread is increasing rapidly in India, we see this as an opportunity to create mobile app strategies for brands and enterprises that would help them engage with their customers or drive efficiency. While most of our current clients are global, the Indian market too has been picking up. We are already working with some of the largest enterprises across sectors and helping them evolve the mobile app strategy for a competitive edge in both the B2B functions and B2C reach and accessibility.

What are the challenges being faced by the CIOS with respect to enterprise mobility?

From a CIO’S point of view, security is an issue of vital importance and concern to enterprises that are expanding their mobile strategy. The mobility-related security issues that need to be addressed include transmission security, storage security of data, enterprise authentication, and back-end app authorization.

IT policy enforcement which includes access control, data security, and content management is the key challenge faced by the CIOS. Security mechanisms for mobile device access such as stringent passwords, 2- factor authentication, and encryption have to be created to meet these challenges.

What trends do you foresee would be sought after with respect to enterprise mobility?

Most mobile applications which are developed these days incorporate features such as social computing, location, and gamification. As enterprises are also adopting these trends which are labeled enterprise social, enterprise gamification, etc, new enterprise mobility efforts would also integrate features from these concurrent trends, accelerating the IT consumerization further.

What are your expectations from technologies like 3G and 4G?

The data transfer limitation of 2G and older technologies has limited the usage of visual content in applications and hence textual content was dominating. 3G and 4G technologies will enable an effective incorporation of visual content including very high- quality images, videos, and animations. Interactiverich media based business analytics will be the key benefit from 3G/4G for end users.
