‘We are uniquely positioned to lead the NFC market’
How is Broadcom boosting NFC for India?
For payment transactions, there is an entire ecosystem that is in the process of being deployed. In addition to NFC in the phones, Nfc-enabled payment terminals (similar to the terminals currently used in stores to process credit or debit card transactions) must also be ubiquitous. As a chip vendor, we work most closely with the handset and device makers, as opposed to the financial institutions and cellular carriers. Broadcom has worked with device makers to fine tune their offerings based on the feedback from such pilot projects, but we have not initiated or run any such projects ourselves.
We are working with ecosystem partners and ODMS who are designing POS and finance solutions for India. UID is an integral part of these products being designed.
Broadcom is uniquely positioned to lead the NFC market with its vast IP portfolio, connected ecosystem, and expertise in developing standards based, integrated solutions. The company is designing new NFC innovations that meet the power, size, and functional requirements to ignite NFC adoption in next-generation handsets.
Which will be the key new technologies that will drive the growth of the chipset industry?
In India, we believe the following technologies will drive growth: Set-top boxes solutions for media digitization mandate, 3G and then 4G smartphone & device sales, network build out for 3G and 4G services, cloud computing and services, and broadband access for all.
How are you countering the ever-increasing demands of mobile backhauling?
Amid the exponential growth in wireless traffic and transition to 4G, Broadcom’s microwave and mobile backhaul family of Socs allow carriers to manage the challenge of backhauling data cell sites to the core network. Broadcom’s microwave and mobile backhaul solutions offer the service providers—advanced functionality, enhanced performance, and design flexibility while lowering the overall system cost.
Broadcom has introduced a new line of switch solutions optimized to meet the bandwidth, scalability, and efficiency demands of the fast-growing small cell base station market.
Broadcom is designing and developing complete silicon and software solutions for service providers, data centers, enterprises, and small-to-medium business networks. Our solutions leverage industry-proven Ethernet technology to promote faster, greener, and more cost-efficient transport and processing of voice, video, and data across both wired and wireless networks.
Our products are found in a wide variety of networking equipment including Ethernet switches, routers and gateways, security appliances, DSLAMS, 3G/4G wireless backhaul equipment, cable and VOIP hardware, desktop and notebook computers, servers and storage appliances, and network-attached printers.
