Which are the most effec ve and relevant ICT tools in the healthcare sector? And the key trends?
Internet is one of the most effec ve and important ICT tool in the healthcare sector; this is because it also encompasses tools like VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) and videoconferencing. Videoconferencing and standard telephone networks are also available separately ie, as non-internet dependent ICT tools. Mobile telephony too is developing as an effec ve ICT tool.
Some of the key technological trends apart from using of ICT in healthcare are implementa on of EMR or electronic medical records, using the cloud for RIS-PACS applica ons and cellphone or mobile based healthcare delivery.
What are the major constraints in the implementa on of ICT within health ac vi es or programs?
The availability of technology especially in rural areas is the major constraint in adop on of ICT in health programs. While ci es and bigger towns do have significant ICT infrastructure in place, majority of the rural areas s ll have a long way to go. Though the government is moving towards this with a Na onal ICT policy, it is presently more focused on educa on.
